About

I'm William Stafford Parsons, the sole creator of Eightomic and long-time software engineer turned solo game developer.

Video games are a perfect blend of art and science, expressive and functional, with one either an asset or a bottleneck to the other.

Creating them opens a rare opportunity to craft experiences to enhance a few moments of someone’s life.

Eightomic brings minimal-style video games with console-quality gameplay to modern desktop web browsers using pure CSS, HTML and JavaScript.

Each game uses only 8 keys on the keyboard, specifically the arrow keys and w a s d.

They're fun for short bursts of memorable, unusual entertainment over a long period of time with intuitive controls and super-polished gameplay to preserve the feeling of wanting to insert a quarter into an arcade machine just to experience 5 minutes of a video game.

Eightomic respects that you probably have a busy life outside of gaming and may already have hundreds of other games to grind, so each game is built without HUDs, XP grinding, achievement hunting, in-game currency purchases, objectives, loot boxes or malicious downloads.

As a result, Eightomic is able to focus on creating fun games where the arcade-style, high-quality, meditative gameplay experience is the only reward system.

If I don't have fun playing the games I create, I don't expect others to enjoy playing them. Therefore, Eightomic games are the only games that I play.

Furthermore, Eightomic conducts open computer science research in the area of optimizing "close-to-the-machine" algorithms that have the most potential to speed up popular game engines when applied correctly, although the sustainability impact goes far beyond game engine optimization.
